Through His creatures.

A favorite reference for Our Blessed Lord among Catholics and the 40,000 Protestant denominations is "Christ, Victor," but it is especially prevalent within Catholicism. In these perilous, uncertain and challenging times, it yields a great comfort in terms of the end.

However, let's look at this for a moment: Christ is God. As such, He has no rival because He's all-powerful, infinite, etc. That's kind of the philosophical definition of God. Satan is not God's rival. God has no rival.

Satan's rival is St. Michael. It is they who did battle following Lucifer's rebellion and, of course, the dragon lost. So since God has no rival, how precisely is He "victor"? He's not conquering anyone in the common understanding of being a victor, again because no one can challenge God.

You can defy Him. You can disobey Him. You can reject Him. But you can't challenge Him. It's not possible. He is infinite. Creatures are not. Game over before it even begins. So how is Christ "victor"?

Building from the rubble.

So political events have now come to an end and finished in the way none of us wanted to see. Okay, we have to deal with that reality. As faithful Catholics and patriotic Americans, the last two years have been quite the eye-openers, and it is on that point that we'd like to offer some words of encouragement.

Everything that has gone wrong in the culture the last 60-plus years can be laid at the feet of the U.S. hierarchy. That sad fact has to be stared directly in the face. Church Militant has been trumpeting this clarion call for years. But, here in the U.S., the collapse of the hierarchy took on a special dynamic unique to the United States.

America was born in the context of a strange mix of so-called Enlightenment principles of fraternity, liberty and equality, paired with freedom of speech and freedom of religion.

That all sounds good and everything, but just like a Vatican II document or virtually any utterance from the Francis Vatican, it all depends on how you interpret it. The deadly ingredient in all that was established at the beginning of the nation was the ambiguity of it.

And naive.

In the post-mortem (and we do mean post-mortem), not only of the election in the immediate aftermath, but of the nation, people have to face facts coldly in the face.

And if you will allow a personal anecdote here: I was on vigil duty at the house of a 10-year-old girl (here in metro Detroit) who was kidnapped and eventually found dead in a dumpster not far from her home about six weeks later.

For her memory and prayers for her soul, her name was Deanna Seifert, and she lived in the suburb of Warren — kidnapped in the dead of the night on Mother's Day while at a sleepover with her other little friends. During our coverage, we would keep vigil in the street every day, talking to neighbors and filing our reports.

One day, I was talking with a police officer in front of the house, and I said to him how hard it is to think that this kind of horrible thing could happen. His reply has never left me.

As 2020 mercifully comes to an end today, we should call it what it was — "the year of the Devil."

It's too emotionally draining to review all the evil that was exposed this past year, but suffice to say, think back just one year ago to New Year's Eve of 2019, and just ask yourself, "Could anyone have imagined that all this would happen?"

This was the year that communism went mainstream, and remember what communism is. It's a political system that hides behind concern for the downtrodden, but at its heart, hates humanity and its creator. How so many people could be fooled into accepting this system is still something of a mystery with many possible answers, all of which are probably correct to varying degrees.

If it weren't for the fact that this is now the new reality, we would be grateful to write off 2020, and happily flip the calendar. But seeing as how this is ultimately a spiritual war, faithful Catholics don't get to do that. In fact, we need to become more aggressive, particularly in the face of religious leaders — especially the bishops — who have simply caved to all this.

December distortions.

December normally is a month when the Marxist media trots out more important distortions than any other month because they produce zillions of stories about Our Blessed Lord that distort the truth about Him. In short, they distort the Divine.

This year, however, they have ramped up the distortion game — this time against democracy, claiming Biden won, to which you have to say: "Well, if you're willing to lie about Jesus, why wouldn't you lie about Joe?"

In the case of Our Lord, they are lies in the negative, detracting from His divinity. In the case of Joe, they are lies in the positive, claiming he won. He did not.

Truth: It really is a Hail Mary.

At the time of this recording, the Texas lawsuit, joined by at least 17 state attorneys general, is still very much alive, since the Supreme Court has asked the four states that cheated their rear ends off to present a defense for the charges in the suit.

Now, what's interesting here is how the members of the Marxist media have taken to characterizing this suit. They're calling it a "Hail Mary." While the common usage of the term refers to a long shot at best, the millions of Catholics around the country — indeed, the world — who are praying zillions of Rosaries would also refer to this as a "Hail Mary," but for entirely different reasons.

First off, it is true that this is "the big one," as President Trump classed it the other day. There's no doubt about that — it is. It is so much, in fact, that we named our Post Election Special Wednesday night (where we got into some detail about all this) "Fourth and Goal."

Secular people think being under heavy demonic influence looks like something out of a Hollywood movie. You develop a guttural croak, stick out your tongue at inappropriate moments, and even develop a limp that signifies you are not well. Or you’ll do things that are obviously evil, such as punch little children in the face and torture backyard animals. The reality is far more subtle. Demons can be in total control over your life, directing your every move, and you will still be deceived that you’re a “good person” who is in charge. The word demon may not even enter your mind.

You’re under demonic influence if you commit evil deeds yet are unable to recognize them as evil. Usually it starts when you commit minor transgressions as an adolescent, often starting with masturbation. You choose to ignore your conscience telling you that masturbation is wrong because you want to feel good in the moment and follow your own will. Over time, your conscience atrophies as you continue to disobey it, allowing you to commit greater evils as an adult until your conscience becomes so damaged that you are easily able to convince yourself that the evil acts you commit are actually good or virtuous.

An example of a great evil I committed in the past was taking the virginity of a few women. In my defense, I did not have to trick them that I wanted a long-term relationship or marriage, and chances are they used me to begin a promiscuous lifestyle, but that is still no excuse. I was the vehicle that Satan used to remove their bodily purity, something they will never be able to give to another man.

Silence opens the path for evil.

You've heard the old expression (we are fairly sure), "Never talk about religion or politics." In the annals of recorded human history, you'd be hard-pressed to find more ridiculous counsel than that.

First, only weak people ever offer that piece of advice. Passive, conflict-averse, Jell-o–for-spines individuals are the only ones who ever offer that kind of advice. Second, evil-minded people never stop talking about religion and politics. It is their constant hammering on it coupled with the lack of any kind of sufficient response from weak people that has allowed the ball to be moved so far down the field.

The "keep quiet" crowd could really take a page out of the Marxist playbook on this score — seriously. Marxists lie, cheat, steal and do all sorts of other assorted evils, but you need to give the Devil his due: He is relentless.

Time to be more like serpents.

In the continuing revelations being made at the intersection of Church and culture, President Trump said something very plainly Saturday at the Georgia rally in Valdosta — as plain, in fact, as the nose on your face. It's this simple point: Republicans are nice, and as a lady from the crowd reminded him, too nice.

Likewise, in last week's public hearing on election fraud in Michigan, Rudy Giuliani made the exact same point, that good people are too nice and have not realized just how mean bad people really are. Hopefully, it's a message that will resonate with political conservatives and enough Republican leaders before it's too late.

But moving from that point straight into the Faith, there are often major overlaps in how all these affairs play out because we are always dealing with human nature at the end of the day, regardless of the given arena. Too many faithful Catholics are just way too nice. For a variety of reasons, they simply let the evil in the Church (as well as the world) continue. In some weird, overly pietistic view of the second commandment to love your neighbor, they simply forsake all common sense and proper judgment.
