Normally I follow that advice of maintaining a good bodyfat percentage year round and just eating at a very slight surplus to get quality lean gains.

But this year I had some strength goals I wanted to reach and I just ate through the plateaus. To that effect it worked very well, but I ended up putting on more body fat than I would have liked.

So now it's a case of cutting down back to reasonable levels, and then returning to a sustainable diet for quality lean mass gains.
