@SafeWordIsCommitment And I respect that. Though I advocate for less cut-throat culture in finance, I see how extremely valuable it is in the field. Alphas always rise to the top, I would just prefer to see that merit based more on hard skills. Being red-pilled for 12 months, there is still much for me to learn and implement.

@SpivakFan the challenging part is getting onto their radar and convincing them of what you bring to the table, good luck!!

@millennialRP great, thank you. I'm glad that it can be straightforward. Obtaining research positions in academia is anything but.

@millennialRP Having done test and dbol after doing prohormones, I must say that it depends entirely on the cycle you are interested in. If you're looking for some entry level gains that don't require a LOT of commitment, then PH are the way to go. If you have the time and willpower to dedicate to a test cycle, I recommend that route.

@SpivakFan old fashioned way, find out firms you could work for and then find out who you need to know and meet, find a way into their radar via networking, events, conferences, offer them services, etc. "how to win friends and influence people" by Dale Carnegie would be a super applicable work in a context like this.

@millennialRP my niche I would say is portfolio optimization. This was the subject of my PhD and one of my main areas of interest. Do you have any additional advice on how one would 'break into' a research position at a private firm? I am very interested in such a role.

@SpivakFan if you have understanding of a specific niche (investment finance, asset management, private wealth mgmt etc.) you can try to break into a research position and then navigate the waters from there

@SafeWordIsCommitment So would you say that it's better to stay in academia where I am now? I have friends graduating university who are being offered positions. Granted they have done internships and made more connections than I have. I can't help but think you are exaggerating the difficulty of obtaining a position in investment banking

@bradyo2 @SafeWordIsCommitment Well I have a PhD in Applied Math, all of my financial knowledge is self study and the exams were wicked easy. What you're saying is the best option is to bend over without any lube, which is fine. I could tolerate a summer of slavery.
