Ask the seller in person if you can have a garage perform a pre-purchase inspection even if you have no intention of doing so, and gauge his reaction carefully. A no answer alone isn't necessarily a red flag, but evasive or liar body language is.
If the UK has the equivalent of salvage branded titles, this alone isn't a red flag but proceed with caution and don't pay top market price.
