Silence opens the path for evil.

You've heard the old expression (we are fairly sure), "Never talk about religion or politics." In the annals of recorded human history, you'd be hard-pressed to find more ridiculous counsel than that.

First, only weak people ever offer that piece of advice. Passive, conflict-averse, Jell-o–for-spines individuals are the only ones who ever offer that kind of advice. Second, evil-minded people never stop talking about religion and politics. It is their constant hammering on it coupled with the lack of any kind of sufficient response from weak people that has allowed the ball to be moved so far down the field.

The "keep quiet" crowd could really take a page out of the Marxist playbook on this score — seriously. Marxists lie, cheat, steal and do all sorts of other assorted evils, but you need to give the Devil his due: He is relentless.

Time to be more like serpents.

In the continuing revelations being made at the intersection of Church and culture, President Trump said something very plainly Saturday at the Georgia rally in Valdosta — as plain, in fact, as the nose on your face. It's this simple point: Republicans are nice, and as a lady from the crowd reminded him, too nice.

Likewise, in last week's public hearing on election fraud in Michigan, Rudy Giuliani made the exact same point, that good people are too nice and have not realized just how mean bad people really are. Hopefully, it's a message that will resonate with political conservatives and enough Republican leaders before it's too late.

But moving from that point straight into the Faith, there are often major overlaps in how all these affairs play out because we are always dealing with human nature at the end of the day, regardless of the given arena. Too many faithful Catholics are just way too nice. For a variety of reasons, they simply let the evil in the Church (as well as the world) continue. In some weird, overly pietistic view of the second commandment to love your neighbor, they simply forsake all common sense and proper judgment.

Must love the truth.

As we approach this Christmas season, it's good to turn to the Scriptures (as it always is) for some deeper insight. And, for the record, we mean insight and reflection offered to us by the Church who gave us the Scriptures — not our own personal opinion of what they mean.

In the last 50+ years, there have been loads of various editions published (some obviously much better than others), and around Christmastime, my eyes are always drawn to one particular passage and how modernists mangle it. It's the scene with the heavenly hosts joining the angel in the night sky above Bethlehem, singing "Glory to God in the highest" at the birth of our Lord.

Many editions report it as this: "Peace on earth. Goodwill toward men." That is such a bad mangling and corruption of what is actually sung by the angels that it seems it couldn't be anything but deliberate. What they actually sang was, "And on earth, peace to men of goodwill."

Perhaps the least understood and mangled of the virtues is prudence. Most people seem to view prudence as slamming on the brakes and not doing anything lest you get overly aggressive or make a mistake. So an appeal to prudence inevitably reduces to a do-nothing approach.

Nothing could be farther from the truth.

Prudence means responding in a manner that suits the situation. So yes, if certain charges are being made against someone, the veracity of which are yet to be determined, then of course you should proceed with caution in your judgment or action.

But — and this is where most people lose it — if a situation is unfolding that demands your urgent attention (your house is on fire, for example, or a loved one is about to plunge into darkness of some sort) caution is the last thing you want to exercise. The entire premise of the old television show Intervention was built around the proper exercise of prudence.

Where is it all going?

God created man free to worship Him, to overcome internal spiritual civil war and to be united with the Holy Trinity forever — God, Church, freedom. Do you seriously think none of that is worth fighting for and dying for if necessary?

Americans may very well have had an election stolen from them. Loads of evidence is pointing that way. It's coming down to a very narrow path — still winnable, but very narrow.

The Marxists need to lock down the White House, and that means getting favorable rulings in a multitude of court cases. So far, it's been a mixed bag, but mostly rulings have gone in their favor.

The only serious firewall left is the Supreme Court of the United States. The constant howl from the communist media is "there is no evidence of widespread fraud," which is a blatant lie. I'm not sure when hundreds of eyewitnesses stopped qualifying as "evidence," especially witnesses making statements under oath and subject to penalty of perjury. But hey, when you hold the microphone, you get to lie all you want.

When a person or people have been utterly betrayed, only one remedy will suffice: A complete and very public confession. To the extent the betrayal was public, the admission of it must be at least as public, preferably more. Turning to the U.S. hierarchy, nothing less will suffice.

Additionally, reparation must be made since so much has been damaged. It won't undo the harm, but it will begin a course reversal that is more than necessary at this point. Imagine the impact that a public confession of sin would have had in England during those first years of the tyranny of Henry VIII — or even as late as Elizabeth.

Today, their lack of a confession has more than likely not only resulted in the loss of their souls, but the reality that the Church in England never recovered from their treachery — generations of Catholics lost for half a millennium and counting. That's why it's likely they were damned.

Evil never stays isolated.

Evil is never compartmentalized. It spreads like a grease fire, overflowing into all aspects of a place. A person is not both good and evil at the same time. And for clarity, we aren't talking about people simply sinning, giving in to temptation and then going to confession.

We are talking about the embrace of evil — not just bad, sinful acts. A person can be fundamentally "good" but still sin. That understanding fits nearly everyone struggling to work out his or her salvation in fear and trembling.

No, here we are talking about a situation where a person has given himself over to evil, embraced it. Such people are fundamentally bad. For them, salvation is a much more difficult goal, for they do not even recognize the need for repentance.
