im basically figuring this same thing out on my own site right now. blending the user/group streams is a tough thing to integrate. on my site ive decided that group streams need to take priority, with the default being similar to a reddit customized feed (if logged in) or 'All' (if logged out). and only original content shown in group/user streams - replies need to be contained to separate discussion pages or modal windows.

@redpillschool congrats on the site launch - sorry it had to be premature with circumstances and all. im interested in your advertising costs/policy, give me a holler
