I don't know if EVERY single major civilization did this but this is an excellent point otherwise. I don't think that @TheRedPike's understanding is historically accurate because the sacrificed tend to be the best of them, not the worst of them. Not always true but they did sacrifice virgins of high class families.

How early have they been in pursuing goals like this? The 19th century?
Since the beginning of human civilization. I'd always found it bizarre that every major civilization engaged in human torture and sacrifice to some supernatural entity knowing it would not just reward them, but protect from from retaliation. Civilizations that spoke no shared language, inhabiting different continents, oceans apart or tens of thousands of miles away from each other, oftentimes centuries to several thousand years apart in the historical time line all had the shared inspiration imparted unto them by some supernatural entity that torturing and murdering children would earn favor with it and earn them worldly power.
You can dismiss this if you want, but I think something supernatural has always been driving this and I've seen too much to believe otherwise.

@Typo-MAGAshiv that's not the whole point. Hell, maybe that IS a genetic female in that picture. The real issue is the destruction of femininity as what we are supposed to find attractive.
