As a 40something IT pro and military veteran, I've created this profile and tribe to share my successes, failures, and experiences regarding finance to help others learn from what I've done right, and hopefully avoid repeating some of the many mistakes I have made over the years.
@Chaddeus_Rex I literally posted my account balance earlier, but it looks like it was taken down or the post I replied to was deleted.
When I talk about empire building I'm approaching it in the context of shooting for the stars. You may not build an /actual/ empire, but it puts people into the right mindset for building wealth, especially entrepreneurship. Granted not everyone is cut out for that, but if they never try then they'll never know what they're capable of. Never sell yourself short.
@JamesSkepp Bingo! I love talking about finance, that's my shtick. I just updated my M1 portfolio this morning actually. The attached picture illustrates the result of just a few years of value investing, which I'm a HUGE proponent of.
Dividend investing is great, but I don't believe it's wise until you're within 5ish years of retiring. That's when you convert over and draw 3-4% in perpetuity so you never eat into the principle.
I didn't even have to work that hard to build up this portfolio--it's all from becoming financially educated.
Note: This doesn't include my current 401K or the near 7 figure trust I created. When people ask where the bulk of my money is, that's where it's at. The M1 account is mostly play money for illustrative/learning purposes. I keep my "real money" out of the public's eye.Read More
@GayLubeOil "He's going to avoid anything that is difficult or interesting and stick narrowly to the script."
Yes. I said as much in an earlier reply. All part of ensuring the channel stays up until I can build an audience. This account has to walk the same line should someone ever attempt to doxx me or my viewers.
As for monetization, I'm 100% transparent on this. I'm still 500+ subscribers and 3900 watch hours away from that even being a possibility. If I get there in another year or two, then I'll consider it. I do treat the channel as a 'side hustle', but it isn't even remotely close to being a financial asset/profitable. If anything it's a pretty big liability with the amount of money I've poured into getting things started. Perhaps one day there will be an ROI, but that's a long ways off.
For now my focus is on mentoring and improving the quality of the channel/show.Read More
@destraht Hmm... the reason I locked the livestreams away is to protect privacy. I would think people would WANT that to be the case from a Fight Club perspective.
I'll have to reevaluate this and ask participants what they expect next time I do a livestream.
@destraht I'm open to constructive feedback. How would you make a channel intended to help people straighten out their finances and get started on their empire building?
Keep in mind two major factors: I'm not very good at editing and I thrive on live audience participation/livestreaming.
