America was the only mainland whose manufacturing and infrastructure base was left unscathed by the war, which put us on top of the socioeconomic heap for a generation after. The technological and economic boom times resulted in huge surpluses from the personal to the national level. War/Depression generation parents were plenty strict with tough standards; it was economic opportunity that made things go like this:

The Boomer generation grew up not having to work hard relative to all generations before them to have plenty of material goods available to them.
