Why TF do civilian cops need military weapons? I hate that the phrase "military and law enforcement" is treated as normal... two similar aspects of the same entity. I'm not convinced that civilian cops should have instant access to lethal weapons when there are so many non-lethal ways to handle situations available to them. If there's a legitimate law enforcement use for a fully automatic weapon, I have never heard of it.

Bold of him to assume that very many civilian cops have ever served in uniform... much less been in a war zone.
Cops are, generally, pussies who either couldn't hack it in the military or didn't even try. In the military there are rules, and you can't just do whatever the hell you want knowing that your drinking buddies will the ones doing any "investigation." Also, in the military the bad guys shoot back, and you don't have a 10-to-1 advantage.
I've known and worked with a lot of cops, and whenever one of them tells me that he's one of the good ones I like to ask how many cops he's arrested. They almost always say, "None." Franjly, anyone who's been a cop for more than a week had seen a cop do something they would arrest a non-cop for doing, so a guy who's been on the force for years with 0 cop arrests is - at the very least - an accomplice to multiple crimes.
