I'm going to come back in 3 months. If I can read and post without javascript, I will begin my project here.

@redpillschool Thanks. I'll come back in 3 months to see if the relevant changes have been made. Take care.

@redpillschool Thanks for your reply. This comment was originally for you, but I posted it here for general discussion.

lso, javascript embedded links are not bad opsec- you can argue that it's poor fallback compatibility, but it's unrelated to opsec.

I'm sorry but if I can't read the comments without turning on javascript, it's an opsec issue from my perspective. You may have a different opinion, but I am offering mine.

we don't have time to do a fully non-js compatible site

I totally understand the manpower issue. I'm putting the issue out there because I think it's CRUCIAL. Even if it is something you can't deal with now, I think you should deal with it ASAP.

The issue is some of us want to use Tor with javascript off. Leaving javascript on with Tor is inviting exploitation.

And some of us have good reasons to be cautious. My life was destroyed by things I wrote in my youth, things I pretty much still believe today. But I did not practice opsec. I thought we lived in a free world with freedom of speech. What we actually live in is a terror state run by fascists and vigilantes who want to stamp out anyone with a different view. I know this personally. And I am not the only one.

It has taken me a decade to put my life back together. I want to participate. I really do. I'm not bringing up javascript to nitpick. It's a real and valid concern for me. FYI, my opsec is pretty serious. I don't do social media like Facebook. (This is it.) I don't have an email address. (Because I don't trust other people not to leak my info in replies.) I don't have a stable Reddit identity. I don't have any bills in my name. I have one bank account and a credit card, but I don't use it online. I use Tor for practically everything just to stay clean and because "fuck you" to whoever is watching.

So that's me. And now I have to ponder whether I want to weaken my opsec regime to post my controversial opinions, which have burned me before, on a site made for people who are getting burned. "Play with fire..." and all that.

So that's my thought process. I haven't decided.

If the manpower situation changes, may I suggest two minimal-functionality options:

  1. Can read with javascript turned off. Then at least people like me can visit TRP and enjoy the content.
  2. Can login and post (blogs?) with javascript off. Then people like me can contribute and have a presence, even if in a limited way.

No need to make everything non-js.

Thanks for your time, and good luck however it pans out here for me.

I just realized there is a more appropriate place to post this, at the Development Updates page.

First of all, thanks to the Red Pill Team making this site. I've just made my account and want to make an important technical observation.

JAVASCRIPT

I just tested Tribes with javascript turned off and most of the content does not appear. Most pages are blank. One exception are pages like this:

www.trp.red/p/gaylubeoil/592

But you would never be able to get there because the pages that might lead you there require javascript and do not even load.

This is a major design flaw in my opinion. There is a large and ever growing population of Red Pill people who have been burned by lax security and may want to at least read content without javascript turned on. The whole point of this site is that we are being targeted, doxed, attacked, censored, and banned.

The designers of this site need to make a hardened version. Personally, it is a major turn off to the point that I may decide not to participate at all so I don't fall victim to the inevitable javscript-enabled exploit that ends up with everyone doxed. People who have security concerns would accept a clunky interface if it meant they can practice proper opsec. I know I would. I love clunk.

ANOTHER VIEW?

Getting back to the link

www.trp.red/p/gaylubeoil/592

I much prefer this pseudo-Reddit look to the pseudo-Twitter look. I have greater interest in long form discussion than Twitter exchanges. Is there any way to set a Tribe to look like the pseudo-Reddit style? To be honest, I don't understand why that post. That takes care of the way posts and comments look. But we would also need a pseudo-Reddit index that listed the top posts as flat 140 character headlines to maximize efficiency. I hope you agree that the new Reddit design is a disaster. The old Reddit design is much superior.

COMMENTS WITHIN COMMENTS

Finally, I find the present system of reading comments a bit inefficient. Clicking on the speech bubble icon opens a javascript thingy, which is bad opsec, but okay. However, if there is a comment to a comment, that requires another javascript intervention. It's inefficient, and users can't download a status with all comments, but are lost in comments within comments. I would definitely fix this.

Again, thanks to the Red Pill Team for putting all this together. It's not easy, but it has become necessary.

@VogelFrei For now, Javascript will be required to browse TRP.RED. Also, javascript embedded links are not bad opsec- you can argue that it's poor fallback compatibility, but it's unrelated to opsec.

Your links to GLO's blog are different because they are a blog.

For now, with the resources we have, we don't have time to do a fully non-js compatible site. Thanks for your understanding.

"To be honest, I don't understand why that post..." looks the way it does. I mean, how did he make it? Why don't all our posts look like that? Why doesn't that post look like this one?
