The archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, earlier this week resigned for his complicity and negligence in the abuse of over 100 boys and young men during Christian summer camps. The CoE is a rather shameful institution in and of itself before you even account for such travesties as the abuse of hundreds of innocent seekers of faith. The cost of this negligence ultimately manifests at the feet of the local CoE communities around the country.
What little trust that remained is chipped away and leaves local churches with damp ceilings, mould, concerned with when/if/how they can heat the church, if the drive to feed the homeless can continue... and on, and on. What defence can the parish possibly mount when would be Christians voice their concerns or stay away from the church and faith altogether? Even if we put faith to the side for a moment and consider the simple concept of community cohesion, events or shared values and goals... that too is lost by the cretins that represent the CoE so prominently.
What the resignation of Welby should be is an opportunity for the CoE to analyse their direction and the future of the faith in this country. Instead, the ones in a position to either take the role or make the appointment are already drowned in the myriad agendas that have and will continue to drag the CoE down.
What we actually need in this moment is a strong voice to admonish the previous failures of the CoE, to completely disavow, make apostates of the horrific bad actors. Grow a backbone and establish a confident and determined church, reintroduce the idea of a Christianity that affects the world rather than a timid faith that is acted upon and diminished by detractors. Mercilessly cut out any who bring shame upon the institution like Justin Welby and John Smyth.

Which one wants to, I don't know, advocate for the word of God in the Bible, perhaps? Rather than transmogrify it to promote one of the 21st century's bunkum pseudo-religious ideologies?
