@adam-l what we subjectively feel is HIGHLY influenced by belief effects. You think that it's getting warmer, so you feel subjectively warmer even though the objective data (which only goes back reliably a hundred or so years at most) shows that it isn't. Changes like .1 degrees are nothing, a rounding error, and to suggest that we turn the entirety of civilization upside down to counter that is an overreaction on the scale of burning the house down because you saw a spider.

@adam-l this was one of the things that No More Mr Nice Guy opened my eyes to - the way that male children often end up being emotional support for their mothers nowadays. Its incredibly damaging to a child's mind. Not because you shouldn't love and support your mother, we should all do that. But during development it's a warping of the dynamic that's supposed to exist, which makes it very hard for a young boy to differentiate from his parents the way he needs to for growth.

@JamesSkepp nobody believes me when I say that this place has a target on it's back, and there are forces at work who would love to see conversations here derailed with lots on infighting. It's called consensus cracking, a trick that goes back decades. Literally the entire goal is to come in and get people arguing over dumb shit, preferably with a high level of emotional investment.

@adam-l it would make sense for men to have strong empathy for those considered to be in their group, because it would motivate them to take action on their behalf. Maybe the limiting factor is in-group preference?
