Any geopolitical motivation is going to boil down to a resource in one way or another
Geography in itself is sometimes a reason (mountain chains, sea passages, islands etc.).
Also, there's a lot wealth to be transferred from the taxpayer to the military-industrial complex, by having to replace destroyed military equipment, and infrastructure.
There doesn't necessarily have to be a resource grab for some very wealthy and powerful people to make a lot of money off of war.
Even hard Trumpists in my country have trouble stomaching this move.
Trump might believe that diplomacy is finished, and raw power is the way to go... but as long as China doesn't think so, Trump might have a problem. "The Chinese will fuck you harder" is not a way to appoach international alliences. There's a limit to how reckless you can be till others start to think that they are better off away from you.

Since it is not a weapon factory, It doesn't make sense at all, whatever the reason. Hence it is for a spectacle, at best defenses were installed nearby.
The best reason I have heard to get in there is to prevent from China or Russia settling there.
USA has Saudis on the other side of the globe, China/Russia has really only Cuba which is not wealthy and has no resources to become.
The likelihood of Venezuelan women staying thin after Venezuela would become wealthy is rather thin, whether independent or not. I don't think there is many cultures/countries where it happened.
Is it better to let them be poor and oppressed and thin vs wealthy and free and fat? If this question would be about women only then yeah they should stay oppressed and poor, we can see where the road of unchecked freedom leads them and being fat is not the biggest issue. But then all the men in this country are royally fucked and by having no pussy they hustle their lives daily, surely.
There is limited number of choices to get the balance back and it is not happening, no one talks about it, using a trad shield.

I wouldn't die on this hill, to be honest. Any geopolitical motivation is going to boil down to a resource in one way or another. It's proven to be oil often enough that denying it just seems like wasted effort. And also, so what? Who wants a commie stooge dictator sitting on the worlds largest oil reserves? Not me!
