When / how did you guys move out? I have the opportunity to move away from home, alone and on my own but with major bills once again. I’m currently at home with my parents after a break up unfortunately. It’s been a year and I have an opportunity to leave. I’d be struggling for the first 3-6 mos. But I think I’d be happier. What would you guys do? I’m 26 btw.
There's nothing to really explain. Like most guys, I worked a job and saved my money. A portion of my saved income was spent to secure licenses and education which would enable me to increase my then hourly income. I was smart about it, in that I avoided taking on student loans or credit card debt. Eventually, I had enough money saved to afford a place of my own, as well as the cost in hiring people to help me move there.
If you expect the first three to six months at the new place to be a struggle, I'd suggest you stay where you are and keep building up your savings for a few more months. Aim to move out in April next year. If you're carrying debt, use this time to apply as much of your income to servicing that debt and revise your plan accordingly.
If being around your parents and siblings is unappealing or stressful, then find other places to be than their home when you're off work. Check out meetup dot com or eventbrite dot com and look for groups through which you can occupy your time for a few hours a week after work before going home. Best of luck to ya.
