Welp, it had to happen eventually. Somebody will want to talk politics so here it is. This is specifically for US Politics

@woodsmoke If he is the right guy, and it looks that way, execution is the logical punishment. I would not have a problem with it either as the judge, the jury or the executioner but we need to be above hatred. Kill him in a clean and dignified way. It will allow the people he hurt to keep their dignity. Allowing him to die with dignity is the thing he did not allow his victim. Act dignified and calm meting out justice and you are far less likely to feed ongoing hatred.
Actually, I can't think of the last time I ever saw a female take revenge in a dignified way.

There's this LARP that's been really popular amongst my generation (early millennials), where you pretend you're in 1930's Germany, and you're stopping Hitler before he came to power.
I think it's a combination of 1) growing up with too much un-nuanced WWII propaganda, and 2) not having a clear and obvious cause to protest (like the Vietnam war, or the civil rights movement). "Rebel without a cause" sort of thing.
Thus, we got this LARP where everyone who doesn't agree with you is a nazi, and any thought leader on the other side is "literally Hitler", people singing chants from the 30's and shit ("anti fascista" etc.).
Although my generation probably mostly knew in the back of their minds it was just a LARP, now their kids are becoming adults, having been fed the same LARP from a young, impressionable age.
Mind you, I'm not saying there haven't been (and still are) worthy causes to fight for for my generation as well. But the lines between right and wrong always seem clearer in retrospect. So for the feeble mind, it's just easier to pretend you're in 1930's Germany - rather than navigating the nuances of here and now.
Read More@First-light this reminds me the story of the most powerful Chinese empress I once read about. The ways in which she tortured her sexual rivals to death is quite graphic. Any person doing such stuff today would, of course, spend their life in an asylum.

@houseoftolstoy can't say I paid much attention to him or his content, it's not to my political taste.
But I do get a strong impression that his reasonable demeanor in a political field of hard core demagogues, worked to sheep dog young as yet politically uncommitted people in a right wing direction.
Probably true, which is why I doubt they had any involvement in his murder. If they were to start going extralegal on those speaking out against "God's Chosen" there are much bigger fish to fry and, as noted, much more effective and much less attention-grabbing ways to silence them.
I don't think the guy should be made to suffer unduly. If the investigation can conclusively determine he's the one pulled the trigger I absolutely believe he should be put against a wall and shot rather than put in prison at the taxpayers' expense.
He forfeited any right to humane consideration when he planned and carried out the cold, premeditated killing of an unarmed man in front of his family.

Sheesh women can be scary. Women? Within 20 minutes of news of the shooting breaking, the entire MAGA movement and American Right had posted MILES of online comments, blaming Democrats, Marxists, Trans people, "Lefties" in general, along with practically every other hot button scapegoat of Right Wing media, except for once, immigrants. They were ready to start a Civil War in the streets, and visit the next Krystalnacht on every physical embodiment of Democrat and otherwise left of far-right politics, union halls, maybe even soup kitchens and free clinics.
What a difference 24h makes. Today, radio fucking silence from them on the entire thing.
