Mystery solved about the hanging chat notifications. A user sent me 4 chat messages then blocked me before I read them. Thus I was constantly showing 4 unread and getting notifications to the same effect, yet my chat queue was all responded to whenever I'd go there and check.

Later he unblocked me and the whole issue was resolved and explained at once.

I wanted to PM whisper so I wrote my message in the box at the top of his user profile that says "Post to Whisper." It posted the message in the public square tagged to Whisper. Good thing it was just a basic question! I think the labeling on features of the user pages needs some fine tuning because this is ambiguous.

Now a reply notification is hanging along with the chat notification.

Don't even THINK about counting those, along with dimpled chats, as votes for Gore!

Still have the hanging chat notification with no unread chats, even after a new chat popped up and was responded to. It seems to result in email notifications while that is the only pending notification. Status reply updates and notifications working normally.

I've got a hanging chat notification despite all chats currently read.
