Linux or Windows, Tablets to Slimbooks, APU's to GPU's. All tech talk goes here.
The idea of this apartment is that it's just a self-contained office, crashpad, laundry mat, nothing more.
To minimize cost and space I'll wash dishes in the bathtub. There won't be much to wash just; a food container from home, a frying pan after cooking an egg, etc. The induction stove technology is ideal here, and is just an amazing invention. Since my woman despises my cast iron pans at home (nobody is perfect) then I'll be able to log some more hours with them here.
The washing machine will allow me to save huge amounts of water filling up my house septic system, and will also function as a backup. Later when I have a car I'll be transporting linens, dog blankets here to get it done like that.
I redesigned my tiny 14m^2 apartment "la Casa Verde" (due to the very green walls and ceiling that it came with). The huge breakthrough was turning the straight desk into a corner desk inspired by an IKEA piece from their Summer and Autumn collection.
This design is slightly more complicated in that I will need to bring a small water inlet and outlet across the width of the room to the bathtub. About the bathtub, it's not strictly necessary due to this being an old Soviet working "hostel" for workers to work a factory away from a family home. However, that shared bathroom is terrible and needs to be unlocked. I want this to be self-contained. I also miss being able to take a long hot bath with a huge ass green tea. This place is also situated about 6 minutes walk away from the best night pub in the city. So it's a great place to get away from home life to go on dates with my chick, take a long hot bath together and then see what happens.Read More
This is actually how it’s panned out for me, I spent a good week loading up emulators on a couple of my devices and getting games to work. I got my kick out of seeing it boot up, played for about 30 minutes while I optimised the emulator and then when it was all working out I just set it aside.
@destraht That's the joke running around Retro Game Corps and his channel, people collect these devices and spend more time getting them ready to play games than actually playing the games. I'm the opposite, I optimize my entertainment time because there are days I do not play games at all. This ate into my other hobbies, hence why I hit up Forza Horizon 5 for my car fix and FPS's like Insurgency or Arma 3 for my gun fix. Neither of those hit the highs the real thing does but I cannot afford a sports car at this moment let alone the fuel to run one, and ammo is so scarce and expensive that no one in my entire family could even target practice before deer season. We had to save the ammo for actually hunting and hope our scopes did not lose their zero when stored away, my dad had a shot off a few inches because of this.Read More
@TiberiusBravo87 In reality though, I've spent much more time setting up these gaming systems than I've spent playing them. I like it because it's an excuse to combine enough of my Linux skills without it straining me too hard. For example a week ago I built EmulationStation and Retroarch. When I was first doing that for the garage the people on Discord were recommending against me doing it since apparently few are able to do it, or at least the most toxic of the lurkers couldn't, and so were going out of their way to shit on Linux and actually to discourage me. I'm not trying to pump myself up there since there are actual emulator programmers hanging out there whose knowledge of the low level stuff is far beyond mine, but apparently it does require some skill to do. So I built some packages up from source code that is the same skill set really from about 18 years ago. It was fun, and I did what I was trying to do before the haters tried to discourage me, which easily doubled my fun.
The problem in general is having enough local friends who are interested in playing these games and have any skill at all in it. That part has been disappointing. My girlfriend can barely even jump and walk at the same time on a Mario game. Another friend thinks that he's much better served drinking too much and then needing to be cared for. Listing my fiends goes on and on like that. A sad state of affairs in the emulation department. If I'd have known all of this I'm not sure that I would have chosen this country after all of this effort.
It's fine though because we find a way to go forward even though our plans don't work out the way we imagined it.
So a few days ago I had what should be the final two pieces of furniture delivered to the house. I also just endured three days of getting the meek replacement dog up to speed in the house and cleaning up a lot of shit. Now that she is used to the family and not so terrified I've put them outside for the day. I'll let them sleep in the house tonight, and then tomorrow night they'll be sleeping outside. I'm just breaking them in together without shocking them too hard. So now that the house thrash is over and it's staffed by proper dogs, I think that it's time to recharge my cool ebook reader to resume pushing on those philosophy books.Read More
