@destraht I don't do Apple, so anything involving Apple music and iPod's and whatever do not register.

@destraht

However, I always felt that something was very wrong with my society, and so by keeping it virtual I'd have some better way to escape it all, even if I didn't have any idea how to do it.

You're on the better side of things. It's much more awesome to live a life that you made your own instead of buying into the bullshit that was created by someone else, or a group of someone else, or the brain dead masses. Also virtual will never be a replacement for the real thing.

@destraht We don't even know how to prove that animals are sentient, how are we going to do this with AI? You can't tell the difference between simulating a person on Reddit and the typical soulless person using Reddit.

@destraht How do you take a game like Civilization seriously now that you know what really goes on in global politics?

@redpillschool @TiberiusBravo87 @AFTSOV Svelte has been greenlit. It's now powering the upcoming Apple music beta site. Svelte is in most ways vastly superior to Vue and React. Of course I told you guys over a year ago that it was the upcoming best thing ever. It's not going away. I'm hoping and planning to never need to work in anything less good than this again.

@TiberiusBravo87 One thing that sucks about a 4k TV, is that the Raspberry Pi firmwares for games like RetroPie and Batocera try to make it go to 4k, and then the emulationstation menu barely even renders. I'm fairly good at the command line, building drivers from source when I've needed to, etc but two fairly complicated config file tweaks to force it to 1080p didn't work. That part was real disappointing.

@destraht That's 4k for you, 4k is a step that isn't needed. The TV's make a ton more heat on their back panels, need bigger chipsets just to run their menus without lag, and the cost is still too high. I returned a 4k tv recently because it's upscaling was shit (wasn't Sony or LG) and it looked worse than my 1080p tv with older movies and the film grain.

4k further complicates computers and games in particular. Games made for 1080p are 20GB at most. Games made for 4k tend to shoot up to 60GB+ easy. Hitman 2 was like 140GB for all levels in 1st and 2nd game, luckily IO knew this was a major issue so Hitman 3 used compression and smart programming to bring that down to ~100GB for all levels in 1,2, and 3.

Still, I play at 1080p since I love high refresh rates. I wish they made 4k textures and files optional so you don't rape your HDD/SSD and RAM. I don't need the 4k textures that eat up memory. Ditto for Red Dead Redemption 2, that game is 119GB on my NVME drive right now. That's mostly because it was designed to strain PC's at 4k if you want, it's a fantastic game but also an industry standard benchmark.

@TiberiusBravo87 Sure but I have a Ryzen with integrated graphics where the Switch version is perfect. Also the file sizes become absolutely stupid on many PC games such as Mortal Kombat. Check out the file size of that and tell me that 100GB isn't stupid as fuck.

@destraht Instead of emulating a console maybe buy the PC version of those games? There have been several cases on Retro Game Corps of actual ports on Steam running faster than the same game via emulation. Emulation is inefficient by nature, we are making SNES emulators more accurate that are so slow a normal PC would not have been able to run them in the early 2000's. Yet back then NES and SNES emulation was easy for even older (at the time) pentium 2's and pentium 3's, it just wasn't near as accurate as today. I don't see the benefit of that accuracy though, the same games are playing the same.

I'm grumpy that Switch emulation isn't better. I have tons of roms which just don't work now. I want to be able to play Doom Eternal and Civilization 6. I guess that I'm getting tired of roguelikes.
