@whytehorse2021 We're on a cloud hosting platform that we've negotiated with and have agreements re: free speech. I definitely won't be hosting at home, especially with how slow my net is. I'm happy with our speeds when we're not doing heavy database operations, and we have plenty of room to grow, it's all about budget.
We avoid cloudflare and Amazon and other woke companies
@redpillschool I don't know enough about your setup. In my experience, you can get wicked powerful refurbished Dell servers for like $300 because the new windows doesn't support them so all these companies are replacing them. Upgrade them to SSD RAID arrays, install linux, and use them for backend database servers.
You could probably host the server yourself, depending upon your internet connection, and then use cloudflare to serve up most content with just search queries coming into your DB. Eventually you might move it to a coLo or dedicated office but who knows.
If you're on amazon virtual servers I feel sorry for you.
@whytehorse2021 I think the server is under powered for the big updates we did today, I should've increased our resources for the day.
As for database size, it's years of archives from Reddit so I don't think we can shrink it but having a large full text index makes search nicer.
