COVID was also the last straw I think. I think the COVID bullshit + Biden being very clearly unable to be president and winning magically anyway just red pilled too many people into not giving a shit. Black lives matter riots, trans nonsense, mass migration of violent losers.
Their mistake was largely unleashing visibily appalling bullshit in unison and expecting people to ignore not only any one of them but all of them in unison. I think it was just too much for the average normie even to be like "yeah I can keep pretending"
X becoming a place you speak nearly unfiltered truths on was also one of the last dominoes to fall.
In summary, they got very greedy about how much bullshit the average person can silently swallow wholesale
@Vermillion-Rx I honestly think that half of the push to the right that has happened in the ordinary people's politics and ethics has been generated by the left pushing back hard on thought. For generations we slept like the frog being slowly boiled as they took us incrementally further left and took away our rights slowly. No one actually did anything, they just murmured but the change wasn't too bad each generation was only a bit worse off than the last and we just took it.
Then we got the internet and the simple frustrated conversations people had all the time in bars and over games of golf went public. Suddenly the left decided to righteously squash simple talk and people realised "We need to do something here, we need to stand up against these lefties. They are not on our side, they actually don't like us or treat us as equals" And so the left lost their moral authority that had reigned unchallenged since 1945 and became the totalitarians they claim to hate when they use the cry "Facist!" as a hammer to silence people. The left has become the thing it despised and now we despise it.

@Vermillion-Rx Shocking. I have never heard the term before. Now I can't even get reliable information on what it is I don't know. Of course that makes me want to know and then use the term because I don't want to be infantilised. I am in my 50's and I still resent being infantilised. What will this do to a teenage boy who wants to be treated as adult. It will enrage him and push him to the right more than it will do so to me.
