I don't know if this is the right place for this or not, but I've been noticing this worrying trend of people spreading factoids as the Absolute truth. Most of them are leftist in Nature but there are also right-wing factoids.

I wonder how these are spreading like wildfire beyond the "social media" trope Is there some sort of feedback loop where people repeat incorrect information as a fact? How does this work? And how can we defend against it?
