Welcome to the public square. This is our welcoming tribe dedicated to introducing yourself, meeting new people, and learning about new tribes.
@Lionsmane8 Okay, I was going to stay out of this one. But I will share my unworthy opinion here any way:
Like Christianity, Islam derived from Judaism. Judaism was founded upon the legend of Abraham. Abraham was a bronze-age desert dwelling goat herder who was willing to kill his own son because of the voices in his head. Today he would be carted off to a facility to be given medication to help manage his schizophrenia. All three religions are vile on this basis alone. One could write three bibles pointing out the voluminous vile content in the Koran, Talmud, and Christian Bible. VILE. All of it.
Islam only has value insofar as it gives its adherents some hope of revenge against the people who conquered and subjugated them long ago. Same with Christianity. It is bizarre to me to watch people follow a religion that literally mocks the people who believe - while putting their conquerors / overseers in the morally elevated position. WTH.
- @Typo-MAGAshiv has about as solid a track record of contribution to this place as anyone else. You seem new to me. So before you get shitty with a long time contributor - and he and I go quite a ways back - you should calm your tits and formulate a reasonable response. Otherwise you just look like an asshat with no real opinion. Religion is fine. Islam is okay with me as long as it keeps people peaceful. But claiming that Islam is an answer to what ails the West is like saying that smoking weed can ease the pain of lung cancer.
Give that a minute to sink in. If that is possible.
Have a good day.Read More
I certainly do think the world would be a better place if everyone in the world had a moral code, much like Islamic people do.
My guy, ‘Islamic people’ exist as a monolithic moral group as much as the fabled unicorn you’ve been pining for. That is to say, they don’t. Opening up what things should be on the basis of adherence to what is moral is a can of worms that doesn’t hold Islam at its core.
People in the west have much more freedom, but society is a lot more chaotic as a whole.
Freedoms under the guise of a neoliberal world order isn’t great by any means, but it’s a damn sight better than living on a bumfuck farm that’s about to be toast because it has some oil buried under it.
…Well shit, maybe not if you get 30 years of a woman walking five feet behind you… but still, you’d still have to have a go on the goat every now and again.Read More
@RedPirate751 I find it very hard to fake friendliness. I've read Dale carnegie , mark manson, all the shit that helps tremendously with social skills, but holy shit is it a chore conversate with someone I do not like. I know exactly what to say in any given situation, but if I find the other person a retard, I just can't bring myself to do it! Maybe it is normal.
This is an excellent example of the dangers of backwards thinking.
What's backwards thinking? Backwards thinking is starting with the conclusion you want to reach, and finding reasoning and evidence to support it, instead of starting with the evidence, and asking yourself what conclusion it supports.
@Loneliness-inc appears to have sat down to think about "reasons why women shouldn't be whores", and persuaded himself that promiscuity would have led to the extinction of the human race, ergo marriage.
Problem is, if he had started with the evidence, he would have learned with one quick web search that the earliest evidence of marriage as an institution is references in the Code of Hammurabi, about 2300 BC. In order to support HIS conclusion, he needs to make the argument that marriage, or something equivalent to it, existed in the paleolithic era.
That's a giant leap of faith.
Also, if he had started with the evidence, he would have looked at mating among the great ape species, NONE of whom are monogamous, ALL of whom have children which require a lot of care (although not as much as humans), and yet all of whom manage to survive just fine until growing human populations destroy their habitat.
If I had to speculate upon how early humans raised children, and where marriage comes from, based on what evidence I have seen, I would guess that:
Pre-human apes, and paleolithic humans, did not form monogamous mating bonds, but existed with tribes or bands as their primary social unit. Mothers were primarily responsible for child care, with other females of the tribe sharing childcare labour as secondary support, and tribal males in a tertiary support role.
Marriage has its origins in the NEOlithic era, which is the point at which significant property could be owned, such as farmland, and herds of domesticated animals.
Marriage is an economic adaptation, not a biological one. If monogamy were required for human survival, humans would be instinctively monogamous... they are not.
- The struggle between human mating customs and human mating instincts is driven by the gap between the conditions under which humans evolved and the conditions under which we now exist.
