@SwarmShawarma a lot of diseases, disorders, etc are named after the scientist or physician who discovered them. Examples:
Alzheimer's Disease, Asperger's Syndrome, Tourette's Syndrome, Bell's Palsy, Down's Syndrome, Lou Gehrig's Disease, Hodgkin's Disease, Parkinson's Disease, Raynaud's Disease, Duncan's Disease plus a shit ton more I can't think of and probably never even heard of.
As for why it's possessive, I don't know. It's just the way I've seen and heard them my entire life.
