@MentORPHEUS The Executive Branch can't unilaterally "slash" things. It can make recommendations. Sure, there are games they can play here and there, but the substance of that is accurate. Federal spending is not being "slashed." It should be in some areas, and in other areas taxes should be imposed. It'd be easy to fix this overspending problem but politically is apparently not doable.
@SeasonedRP DOGE ALREADY unilaterally slashed billions from the Federal budget. They are currently formally "requesting" that Congress work to make$9.4 billion in additional cuts in order to avoid them getting overturned by courts readily.
@Typo-MAGAshiv It sure does. They haven't actually done a budget since 2008 or so. They just keep everything rolling along and add to whatever spending was in the prior year. It's incredibly irresponsible, but given how many uninformed foolish people are voters, not surprising. I do wonder if it would keep happening if the 19th Amendment were repealed. Our founders knew what they were doing.
@SeasonedRP Among the higher profile DOGE cuts announced, local Social Security offices have announced staff and hour cuts that will directly impact service to recipients. Many locations got marked for outright closure. Cutting access to Seniors who paid into this system their whole lives does not sit with me as a good, much less good faith, program to slash in the name of budget savings, particularly when Musk himself openly and loudly pushes back on cuts to the massive Federal subsidies that Tesla unabashedly holds its hand out for.
There are detailed tables online of DOGE cuts to Federally funded programs. I had to go a few dozen pages in to get to those affecting my own state of California.
