@Deepthroat the Twitter hashtag #ShoutYourAbortion is just as terrible

Abstinence isn't always taught/touted I the basis of any morals or ethics; it's frequently pragmatic as well.
Can you name any other method of preventing pregnancy or STDs that works 100% of the time? Of course you can't, because there isn't one.
Obviously it's 100% effective when practiced, but pragmatic is the wrong word to use here, and my chief critique of the method, as don't have sex at all ever, else bear and raise any children that get conceived is not a reasonable nor realistic demand of the entire population. Again, it boggles my mind to hear it advanced here of all places.
The only people I've ever heard say that are Catholic.
Particularly evangelical christians aside from Catholics used it regularly, leveraging the strong emotional impact of the abortion issue as a leveraging, polarizing, and group cohesion tool. Often Just don't have sex then', problem solved gets delivered with a smug and self-righteous tone by well off married people not restricted by it, making it particularly grating to hear.
Look back at the debate surrounding the introduction of the so called morning-after pill, which works to prevent a fertilized zygote from attaching to the uterine wall and end up getting menstruated away like many zygotes naturally do without artificial birth control. Religious people of many denominations argued that this was equivalent to other forms of abortion, and that it was morally wrong because it "killed a baby."
However, they positively hate...
That's bullshit.
Again, you get more of what you subsidize and incentivize.
Not bullshit, the same mouths that speak for banning abortion also loudly complain about the effects of generational single parent offspring, but grudgingly approve of saving (falsetto voice) the chilllldren. More hacking and shouldering the burden of the branches of evil while also blocking striking the root.

I don't use twitter but I've heard these kind of expressions. They strike me as a post-hoc individual cope, not a widely adopted before-the-fact position.
What should be (and in my case, was) taught in sex ed: the stats on every method, including abstinence, along with the pitfalls and what can go wrong
I agree with you here. My position and concern is that there exists pressure and activity from religious groups to block this and push for abstinence-only alongside their efforts to block others from access to abortion as a last resort. I believe people who don't want abortion shouldn't get one and leave it at that.

A huge example of the right legislating and governing according to ideology which flies in the face of reality.

they insisted it was the ONLY moral form of birth control

Democrat policies have been subsidizing and incentivizing single motherhood for decades.
Nobody actually likes or wants abortion
