Starship Troopers by Robert A. Heinlein

In one of Robert A. Heinlein’s most controversial bestsellers, a recruit of the future goes through the toughest boot camp in the Universe—and into battle with the Terran Mobile Infantry against mankind’s most alarming enemy. "Starship Troopers" is a military science fiction novel by American writer Robert A. Heinlein, published hardcover in December 1959. The story was first published (in abridged form) as a two-part serial in "The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction" as "Starship Soldier".

The first-person narrative is about a young soldier named Juan "Johnnie" Rico and his exploits in the Mobile Infantry, a futuristic military service branch equipped with powered armor. Rico's military career progresses from recruit to non-commissioned officer and finally to officer against the backdrop of an interstellar war between mankind and an arachnoid species known as "the Bugs". Rico and the other characters discuss moral and philosophical aspects of suffrage, civic virtue, juvenile delinquency, corporal punishment, capital punishment, and war.

"Starship Troopers" won the Hugo Award for Best Novel in 1960.

Now, war. War in the Middle East.

No matter where you fall, even if you don't have an opinion one way or the other on the decades-long Israeli–Palestinian conflict, there is something larger to consider here. The military-industrial complex, first identified by President Dwight D. Eisenhower as he left office (and later termed "the Swamp" by Trump) — that crowd loves war. They profit from it.

While Christians don't especially fare well under Muslim rule or Jewish rule, the Jews just bomb them to intimidate Palestinian authorities, looking on them as mere collateral damage; they don't have terror groups beheading them and parading them around on social media.

The Dems back the largely more extreme Muslim forces of the Middle East precisely because of their hatred for the Christian West. And that is the overlap, the point where they form alliances with them, and, in the case of Israel, they are on the wrong side for the commie Dems.

The tragedy of American veterans returning from Vietnam.

Obviously, here in the United States, this is Memorial Day weekend, where we honor those who gave the last measure in defense of freedom.

One war in the history of wars involving U.S. fighting men, the Vietnam War, comes with a black stain, and it is beyond time to talk about it. It was unpopular because the news media took advantage of turbulent times and began pushing the "America sucks" narrative, even going so far as to lambast our soldiers as "killers of children."

It was in those days that the Democrat politicians of today, like John Kerry, started cutting their teeth on the anti-American messaging. It was the first time that they aligned with media on a large scale and began pushing what has now, 50 years later, become their foundational message: America is bad.

But what about the experience of those young men who came home to scorn and ridicule because the media had labeled them as reprehensible (lies, of course)? If I sound like I have a dog in this fight, it's because I do. As many of you might know, I grew up in a U.S. military family.

My dad was in the Air Force and stationed in the Philippines during the last years of the war. The American POWs were flown from captivity to freedom and processed at Clark Airbase before being put on flights that eventually landed at Travis Air Base in northern California, where we were stationed stateside.

For quite a few weeks, servicemen were flown into Travis and processed out of the military. I saw quite a few of those planes landing. The young men — who had seen their brothers blown up and shot — were not monsters. They were young, brave guys who got caught in the crossfire of the beginning of the tearing down of America.

And, having achieved veteran status, were then dumped on by the still-forming communist contingent known as the Democratic Party. Those ungrateful, scheming politicians climbed over the bodies of our returning servicemen, as well as the "KIAs," to advance themselves and their emerging communist agenda.

Mentally ill, fat criminals. Wow!

Remember the old line about the "chickens coming home to roost"? Well, here's more proof of that when it comes to the once-great American nation. Decades of disaster regarding young Americans are finally taking their toll.

The Pentagon is announcing that not only is the U.S. military missing its recruiting targets by alarming numbers, but one giant leading cause is that kids are too fat. Other causes are that they are jacked up on drugs or mentally ill or have criminal records. However, perhaps the most frightening dimension of this is that the leading cause is a combination of all the above. 

Active U.S. military personnel total 1.3 million. Last year, the Pentagon set a goal of recruiting 60 thousand new members. They missed by 15 thousand (25 %). And that's just in one year alone. When it's all said and done, the Pentagon study concludes that almost 4 out of 5 kids cannot qualify for military service — that's 77 %! And remember, that's from the Pentagon's own findings.

One more nail in the bishops' coffin.

Late last week, Biden's Pentagon released a shocking update for military personnel, greatly expanding access to abortion for active-duty soldiers as well as their dependents. The new policy provides for fully paid travel expenses for troops who have to go out of state to obtain an abortion and up to three weeks of leave, including to accompany a dependent or spouse.

What's more, Biden ordered all branches of the military to have the policy operational within 30 days. There is also, contained within its pages, a warning to any commander who might try to slow down the process in hopes of getting the women to reconsider — for example, by speaking to a chaplain or seeking further medical counsel.

According to the Military Times, a senior defense official said,

"We wrote the policy for the 95% of commanders that are going to do the right thing. ... We're going to have to go after those commanders who do the bad thing, just like we go after toxic commanders. And so we'll have to rely on current policy and procedures in those situations."

I'll echo what the other guys have said and add a little more.

The ability to make good decisions (or more accurately, decisions with a higher probability of success) is a skill that can be learned. I've been paid a lot of money in my life teaching people how to do it, and I don't think of myself as a charlatan.

One thing you might try is get yourself a copy of an out-of-print Army manual called FM 101-5. You can probably read it online for free. It's been replaced several times over, but as a generic manual for decision making, it stands up pretty well. Concentrate on the section that deals with Mission Analysis and pair that with the DecMat stuff I gave you in my previous comment.

Hmm... "FM 101-5 Staff Officers' Field Manual, The Staff and combat orders" (1940). I'm skimming through it now, but I pray others find it useful. Who recommended it to you and at what stage of your career? During Officer training or after you were commissioned?
