I wanna be rich
I’m not even rich (my wife and I just did our taxes for 2023, and our gross household income was around $130,000), and we live far better than any of our ancestors ever did, and better than most “rich” people in other parts of the world (including Western Europe). As for seeing how non-Americans live: I’ve been in close to 20 countries on five continents, and I’ve lived in four countries on two continents. Within the US I’ve been in all 50 states and have lived in six of them. At various points in my life my family has been in all five income quintiles.
I know a thing or two because I’ve seen a thing or two, and the US has a lot of things going for it. Unfortunately, one of our major political parties is hell-bent on turning the US into an impoverished banana republic, and that party is currently in power.

@lurkerhasarisen OOh, I see. Yeah, I was talking about upper class
No matter which part of the socio-economic spectrum you’re on, the US is as good as - or better than - almost anywhere else. If you’ve made a fortune elsewhere and have a significant income stream, the US is a fantastic place to live (provided you pick the right place - that part is really important). Virtually none of the sucky things about the US will touch you, and none of the sucky things about living elsewhere will touch you, and you get access to all the cool stuff you wouldn’t get elsewhere.
Don’t get me wrong: the US has its share of problems, but there aren’t many places where it’s better to be rich.
@lurkerhasarisen Ooh I see; so that's why It just seemed asinine. Why leave the means of production that made you rich in the first place?
why would a ton of wealthy foreigners want to go to the US still?
Because every other place sucks even more… just in different ways. Most of the things that suck about being in the US can be mitigated - if not entirely negated - if you have money. Meanwhile, many of the things that suck about other places can’t be avoided at all.
For example, unless you are a career criminal or live in a small number of zip codes with a combined land area smaller than Long Island, your chances of being murdered in the US are less than your chances of being murdered in Europe. On the other hand, if you live in Europe, all the money in the world won’t change the fact that your roads were literally designed to accommodate the width of a Roman ox cart, or that I have easy access to a wider variety of consumer goods within a 30 minute drive from my house than you would in your entire country.
I can also fling red pills around the internet without having the bobbies kick down my door and haul me off to prison.

I just don't get it guys. There are a fuckton of people from around the world that want to go the US, despite coming from very wealthy backgrounds; and yet, I keep reading that Americans are struggling with inflation and high household prices; why would a ton of wealthy foreigners want to go to the US still?
