RIP Charlie Kirk | Controlled Opposition Ends in Martyrdom

www.youtube.com/watch?v=rY4R-X-mrrk

Charlie Kirk is dead and the digital mourning/rage machine is in overdrive. Sometimes, an asset is worth more as a martyr than a mouthpiece.

@woodsmoke

doubt they had

I call it "finding a niche".

So I don't care who about is a topic. Finding improbability niche doesnt change anything if proof can't be found or no one will dare to make a accusatory bold statements that can have an impact.

I'm trying to controll no to get attached to opinions (mine or else) as they will pose as a limiting factor sooner or later.

I'm not entirely sure tho, is it more useful for me this way or not.

Regarding Charlie Kirk, I had a very cautious opinion on him. My impression of him being such a prominent figure in right wing politics was the equivalent of the high school quarterback who just so happened to be the son of the team's coach. That is, I am not entirely sure that he got such prominence based solely on his merits. And it might be the case that the son of the coach shows some competency and plays well as the quarterback. And I could say the same about Charlie Kirk, as he certainly seemed to maintain relevance, even if it might have been manufactured initially.

The reactions of many on the left in various social media platforms is no surprise either. There were plenty of gleeful posts that are glad he is dead, though it comes off as far more spiteful since he was murdered at a very young age rather than someone who died old and with health problems, such as Rush Limbaugh. I know there were voices on the left that spoke out against him being killed and condemned anyone taking joy in his death, though we cannot know for sure whether or not this is geniune or simply performative. From a public eye standpoint, it makes sense to condemn violent extremism regardless of your personal feelings. And in a way, even if you are just putting on a performance, it does show you to be truly different from those who publicly celebrate his death.

Charlie Kirk was by no means extreme in his viewpoints, regardless of what is said about him from those on the left. For many of them, anyone moderately right wing is considered a hard core right wing extremist. So I do not think that they will be convinced that Charlie Kirk being killed will bring about an even further right wing figure. Because they are all Evil Fascist Nazi's in their eyes.

RIP Charlie Kirk

@Durek_The_Bald

Although my generation probably mostly knew in the back of their minds it was just a LARP, now their kids are becoming adults, having been fed the same LARP from a young, impressionable age.

Passing that onto the new generations in cycles Like this, might speed up development of a time machine and it'll finally happen.

@woodsmoke If he is the right guy, and it looks that way, execution is the logical punishment. I would not have a problem with it either as the judge, the jury or the executioner but we need to be above hatred. Kill him in a clean and dignified way. It will allow the people he hurt to keep their dignity. Allowing him to die with dignity is the thing he did not allow his victim. Act dignified and calm meting out justice and you are far less likely to feed ongoing hatred.

Actually, I can't think of the last time I ever saw a female take revenge in a dignified way.

@houseoftolstoy

There's this LARP that's been really popular amongst my generation (early millennials), where you pretend you're in 1930's Germany, and you're stopping Hitler before he came to power.

I think it's a combination of 1) growing up with too much un-nuanced WWII propaganda, and 2) not having a clear and obvious cause to protest (like the Vietnam war, or the civil rights movement). "Rebel without a cause" sort of thing.

Thus, we got this LARP where everyone who doesn't agree with you is a nazi, and any thought leader on the other side is "literally Hitler", people singing chants from the 30's and shit ("anti fascista" etc.).

Although my generation probably mostly knew in the back of their minds it was just a LARP, now their kids are becoming adults, having been fed the same LARP from a young, impressionable age.

Mind you, I'm not saying there haven't been (and still are) worthy causes to fight for for my generation as well. But the lines between right and wrong always seem clearer in retrospect. So for the feeble mind, it's just easier to pretend you're in 1930's Germany - rather than navigating the nuances of here and now.

@First-light this reminds me the story of the most powerful Chinese empress I once read about. The ways in which she tortured her sexual rivals to death is quite graphic. Any person doing such stuff today would, of course, spend their life in an asylum.

@houseoftolstoy can't say I paid much attention to him or his content, it's not to my political taste.

But I do get a strong impression that his reasonable demeanor in a political field of hard core demagogues, worked to sheep dog young as yet politically uncommitted people in a right wing direction.
