Over the past few months, I've experienced that.

Since October, I have let my plates fall off. This was a combination of practicality (went travelling in Asia) and necessity - lost my job, no money. I cant justify spending money at the bar with no job.

In three cases, they have circled back.

I pay cash and take it home. its mine then for as long as I want it. If someone stole it the police might catch them and get it back (doubtful when the police are all out catching racist, sexist and homophobic tweeters but its still theoretically possible). If it bores me I can put it in a cupboard or sell it.

Shopping for a girl on the other hand oh boy. Its complex. These days you can't own one but you always seem to be paying rent in some way on them.

Random Saturday evening thought. Dating is like putting cash into a slot machine. Each date you steadily put resources of time and money into the machine hoping that the lights will flash and the machine will pay (put) out. Some machines pay out easily, others need you to put more in before you get anywhere. You can try several one after another if you like. Once you get one that seems to be paying out, you tend to keep playing with it. Once you are hooked, the machine pays out less and less often but still just about enough to keep you playing. At this point do not make the assumption that purchasing the machine will secure the payouts.
